Modern Craftsman
This 1938 Craftsman-style home had, unfortunately, lost much of its original charm over the years. The beautiful wood-framed windows and interior doors had been covered in layers of white paint, the hardwood floors showed signs of long-term neglect, and many other character-defining features had been compromised. Fortunately, Kemp+Co and her talented team brought new life to the space. Through thoughtful restoration, they were able to uncover and revive several of the home's original elements, while also incorporating tasteful new additions that honor its historic character.
The goal of this project was to bring intentional, thoughtful design back into the home—while staying within budget and adhering to a tight timeline. We introduced rich textures and finishes throughout, including limewash treatments by Color Atelier and Portola Paints in key rooms and main areas, micro-cement in the bathrooms, and a mix of wainscoting and color blocking to add depth and visual interest to several spaces.
While we repurposed some of the existing cabinetry, we elevated it with updated hardware. Custom-painted cabinetry was added around the stove and in the newly designed bar area, which now extends into the dining room for added functionality and flow. Throughout the home, we sourced and installed a full range of new lighting fixtures to bring warmth, character, and cohesion to each space.
Despite the intense time and budget pressures, the team pulled together seamlessly to bring the vision to life—and we couldn’t be happier with the final result. The incredible work of Kemp+Co, led by Taylor, was absolutely essential. If you're looking for a contractor who is hands-on, consistently on-site, and delivers exceptional service, Taylor and her team at Kemp+Co are truly second to none.
